Huskies Fall to Edinboro 30-9 in EWL Action
EDINBORO--The Bloomsburg University wrestling team dropped an Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) match to 17th-ranked Edinboro on Friday night, 30-9. With the loss, the Huskies go to 9-8 on the year with a 3-2 mark in the EWL.
The Huskies took an early lead picking up a 2-1 win from Mike Sees (Northumberland/ Shikellamy) over the Fighting Scots' Ricky Deubel. At 133 pounds, the Scots tied the match score, 3-3, after top-ranked Shawn Bunch won a 13-7 decision over Ricky Donald (Millville/Bloomsburg).
At 141 pounds, EWL Wrestler of the Week Brad Forbes (Downingtown/Downingtown) gave the Huskies a 6-3 lead, winning an exciting 11-10 overtime bout against Rick McLaughlin.
After a Gregor Gillespie pin over the Huskies' George Hickman (Wilmington, NC/Riverside) at 149 pounds, Aric Fuhrman (Spring Grove/Delone Catholic) tied the match score at nine with a 7-2 decision win over Michael Ashby at the 157-pound bout.
At the 165-pound bout, the Fighting Scots got another pin taking a permanent lead in the match. Nearly two minutes into the match, Deonte Penn pinned Frank Beasley (Oden, IL/Centralia) to give Edinboro a 15-9 lead in the match.
Edinbro won the next four matches, earning bonus points at heavyweight. At 174 pounds, Eric Ring won a tight 3-2 decision over Jim Bertulis (Aston/Garnett Valley), while at 184 pounds, the Huskies' lost another close match, when Nate Shirk (Middleburg/Middleburg) dropped a 3-2 decision to Alex Clemsen.
At the 197-pound bout, Joe Fendone pinned Jesse Hasseman (Franklin, IN/Franklin) 4:45 into the match, followed by a 6-3 decision win by Jeremy Mosley over the Huskies' Mike Spaid (Perkiomenville/ Boyertown) at heavyweight.
The Huskies will remain in the western part of the state as they wrestle at Slippery Rock Saturday at 9:00 a.m.
